For this incredible journey, we have chartered the magnificent Palau Siren, a stunning, traditional 40-meter Phinisi sailing yacht. With its spacious teak decks, luxurious air-conditioned cabins, and dedicated dive deck, it is the absolute perfect basecamp for exploring one of the most biodiverse marine sanctuaries on the planet.

The Diving Experience
Palau is famous for delivering high-adrenaline, big-animal action alongside pristine coral reefs and fascinating history. During our week aboard the Siren, we will be diving the iconic Rock Islands Southern Lagoon and the legendary walls of Peleliu (weather permitting).

You can expect to hook in at Blue Corner to watch massive schools of jacks, Napoleon wrasse, and grey reef sharks patrol the currents. We’ll glide over the famous cleaning stations at German Channel looking for majestic manta rays, ride the high-speed drift at Ulong Channel, and surface inside the breathtaking air pockets of Chandelier Cave. Above and below the water, we will also explore WWII wrecks and have the chance to snorkel with millions of stingless golden medusas at the world-famous Jellyfish Lake.

Because Palau is known for its strong, unpredictable currents and drift diving, this trip is geared toward experienced divers. We require guests to hold an Advanced Open Water certification and have a minimum of 50 logged dives.

Getting to Palau (Roman Tmetuchl International Airport - ROR) from the United States is an adventure in itself! From San Francisco (SFO), the most streamlined and popular route is flying with United Airlines, which typically connects through Honolulu (HNL) and Guam (GUM) before the final short island-hop into Koror. Alternatively, you can route through Asia by flying China Airlines with a layover in Taipei (TPE). Because Palau sits across the International Date Line, you will "lose" a calendar day while flying west. To ensure you arrive in Koror safely in time for our November 29, 2027 embarkation—and to give yourself a highly recommended buffer day to rest and adjust to the time zone—you should plan to depart SFO no later than Friday, November 26 or Saturday, November 27, 2027. This will have you touching down in paradise on November 28, refreshed and ready to board the Palau Siren the following day!

Master Liveaboards (via the Palau Siren) generally provides embarkation day pick-up from any major hotel located in the Koror or Malakal area, as well as direct pick-ups from the airport if your flight arrives on the day of embarkation. Because the Palau Siren usually operates out of the Malakal harbor area (often near Sam's Tours), staying on Malakal Island is incredibly convenient.

Here are three excellent, diver-friendly hotel recommendations across different price points if you wish to arrive early:

1. The Cove Resort Palau (Top Pick / Most Convenient)

• Why it's great: Located in Malakal, this resort is practically right next door to where the liveaboards and dive shops dock. It is modern, incredibly diver-friendly, and features the largest lagoon-style pool in Palau.

• Vibe: Modern, nautical, and very comfortable for a buffer day.

2. Palau Royal Resort (Luxury)

• Why it's great: Also located on Malakal Island near the liveaboard docks, this Nikko Hotels property offers a private beach, a beautiful pool, and great dining. It's one of the highest-rated properties in Koror and is perfect for guests wanting a luxury reset before boarding the yacht.

• Vibe: Upscale resort, excellent amenities, great for overcoming jet lag.

3. Palasia Hotel Palau (Centrally Located / Great Value)

• Why it's great: If guests want to be within walking distance to the shops, restaurants, and cafes of downtown Koror rather than the marina area, this is the place to be. It offers great value, duty-free shopping inside the hotel, and sweeping views of the rock islands from the upper floors.

• Vibe: Central, convenient, and budget-friendly.

(Note for guests: If you decide to book an Airbnb or a very small local guesthouse not on the main Koror/Malakal strip, you may need to take a taxi to a major hotel or the dive shop dock to meet the Master Liveaboards transfer.)

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our guests, Master Liveaboards has established specific requirements for diving the challenging, current-swept waters of Palau. All divers booking this trip must hold an Advanced Open Water (AOW) certification (or equivalent) and have a minimum of 50 logged dives prior to embarkation. Additionally, because of the remote nature of this expedition, both comprehensive travel insurance and specialized dive medical insurance (covering emergency medical evacuation and hyperbaric treatments, such as DAN or DiveAssure) are strictly mandatory. Proof of certification, logged dives, and active insurance policies will be required by the crew before you can board the Palau Siren.

• 360 – 61 days before departure:

  • Charge: 30% of the total invoice amount (or the deposit amount paid, whichever is greater).

• 60 days or less before departure:

  • Charge: Up to 100% of the total invoice amount.

California law requires certain sellers of travel to either have a trust account or a surety bond; Dive Outdoors maintains a: trust account.

Guests will be transferred from a Koror hotel or the airport to Sam’s Tours in Malakal Harbour for embarkation aboard the Palau Siren at approximately 5:30 p.m.

After boarding:

• Meet the Palau Siren crew and dive team

• Settle into your air-conditioned ensuite cabin

• Assemble and organize dive equipment

• Attend vessel, safety, and diving briefings

• Enjoy the first dinner of the expedition

There is no diving scheduled on embarkation day.

Day 2: Check-Out Dives & The Ulong Area

• Morning: We begin the trip with a comprehensive check-out dive at a calm, sheltered site to check your weighting and ensure all gear is functioning properly.

• Afternoon: The boat heads toward the Ulong area. We will dive stunning vertical drop-offs like Siaes Tunnel or Siaes Corner, featuring beautiful gorgonian fans, passing reef sharks, and vibrant macro life along the walls.

Day 3: Ulong Channel & German Channel

• Morning: We hook in at Ulong Channel, widely considered one of the greatest drift dives on the planet. You’ll fly over a massive lettuce coral formation while keeping an eye out for hunting trevally and reef sharks.

• Afternoon: We move to German Channel, an artificial channel created during WWII that is now a famous manta ray cleaning station. We’ll hang out in the sand and watch for feeding and cleaning mantas, as well as resting leopard sharks.

Day 4: The Adrenaline of Blue Corner

• All Day: Today we focus on the Ngemelis area, home to the legendary Blue Corner. You will deploy your reef hook at the plateau's edge and hang suspended in the current as the ocean puts on a show. Expect a wall of grey reef sharks, massive schools of jacks and barracuda, eagle rays, and friendly Napoleon wrasse. We will dive this area multiple times to catch it on different tides.

Day 5: The Walls of Peleliu

• All Day: The Palau Siren cruises south to the island of Peleliu. Famous for its WWII history, it is equally famous for deep, sheer drop-offs and ripping currents. We will dive Peleliu Wall and Peleliu Express, looking out into the blue for apex predators, large tuna, and passing pelagics.

Day 6: Jellyfish Lake & Final Reef Dives

• Morning: We head back toward the Rock Islands to hit any iconic sites we missed or repeat a favorite drift dive.

• Afternoon: Time to leave the scuba tanks behind! We will take a land excursion into the Rock Islands to snorkel the surreal Jellyfish Lake. Isolated from the ocean for millennia, millions of golden medusas have lost their ability to sting. Snorkeling through this dense, pulsating golden cloud is an otherworldly, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 7: WWII Wreck Diving & Off-Gassing

• Morning: You will enjoy your final two dives of the trip close to Koror before the 24-hour no-fly countdown begins. These are typically fascinating WWII wrecks, such as the Iro Maru or the Chuyo Maru, which sit upright and are draped in black corals and teeming with life. We may also explore the multi-chambered air pockets of Chandelier Cave.

• Afternoon/Evening: Wash and hang your gear to dry. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the sun deck, settling your onboard tabs, and enjoying a farewell dinner with the crew and your fellow divers.

• Morning: Following breakfast, disembarkation begins around 8:00 AM. The crew will arrange your transfers to your Koror hotel or the airport for your onward journey.
